About Me

Formerly hosted at WWW.VOCALPERC.COM, this blog is the home of Tim Lewis, a vocal percussionist, praise & worship leader, writer and arranger, and musical instructor who wants to elevate a cappella music to a new level and teach people about this thing called vocal percussion.

Here you will find various tips and tutorials about vocal percussion, including how to create certain sounds, rhythm, singing, vocal care, technology, news from other a cappella groups, and more.

What is vocal perc?
Vocal perc is an abbreviated term for vocal percussion, frequently referred to as beatboxing, where a person makes percussive sounds in rhythmic patterns using their mouth to create the framework or background for a song.

What is a cappella?
A cappella means "in the manner of the chapel". It is a form of music that uses no instruments, a tradition that churches at one point followed. Musicians sing different parts to create harmonies, sometimes accompanied by a vocal percussionist who plays the part of the "drummer".
